We have so many options to treat skins with stubborn skin conditions such as pigmentation, acne,  premature ageing,  wrinkles,  congestion and open pores.  Because no two skins are alike, people respond to treatments differently. One of the more dramatic and faster results we can achieve is with skin peels.

What is a Skin Peel

A skin peel is an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment that enhances the skin’s exfoliation process, increasing the shedding of accumulated dead skin. A peel can decongest, smooth, clear and brighten a skin even after just one session. Peels work by deeply exfoliating the skin, unclogging and refining pores, smoothing out lines and wrinkles and lifting pigmentation.

How Do Peels Work?

Peels are made up of hydroxy acids. There are two types of hydroxy acids: Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA). AHAs are water-soluble and work by dissolving the “glue” (bonds) that hold the dead skin cells together. By dissolving the bonds, cells are released from the skin and sloughed off. BHA is keratolytic which means it dissolves keratin, the key protein in dead skin cells. It is also oil-soluble, so has a great capacity to dissolve oily congested pores, clogging and blackheads.

Glycolic Acid

The most popular AHA is glycolic. Glycolic is a very efficient exfoliant, the most powerful of all AHAs, with a small molecule size, it has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin and provide a deeper exfoliation. Excellent for thickened skin due to sun damage, open pores, wrinkles and post-acne scarring.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is a BHA and works differently from AHAs. AHAs are water-soluble and best work on the surface of the skin whereas BHA – salicylic acid is oil soluble and best works on oily skin types. Salicylic acid is excellent at getting deep down into the pores to unclog and decongest. Salicylic acid is also great on problematic skin because it is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory helping to clear pimples and acne.

What Peel Is Best For Your Skin?

Every skin is different and has a variety of skin conditions we can treat. We have a number of peels to choose from and will select the best peel suited for your skin type and conditions. Most people see an improvement even after one treatment however stubborn skin conditions may require a course of treatments.

If you have not had a peel before, it is recommended you have us look at your skin before booking in a peel so that we can do a thorough skin consultation and choose the best course of treatments to achieve good results.
