DERMAPLANING
The Newest Oldest Beauty Secret…..
Have you ever wondered how female celebrities master that dewy, airbrushed look on the red carpet? Itâs obviously a variety of potential factors: diet, exercise, intervention of invasive treatments and the most advanced makeup formulas.Â
But thereâs one more thing all those stars are doing: Dermaplaning. This simple beauty ritual might be responsible for Scarlett Johanson’s glow, but it dates back to the days of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a quick, painless, and safe treatment that can do wonders for your skin. It is a non-invasive, non-chemical, deep manual exfoliation that exfoliates the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz).
Dermaplaning is completely pain-free with no recovery time and offers a rare combination of overall skin rejuvenation and facial hair removal benefits.
What are the benefits of Dermaplaning?
There are lots of reasons to consider dermaplaning. Some of the greatest benefits of this procedure include:
-
Softens rough, uneven skin
-
Brightens the complexion
-
Minimizes the appearance of mild scars
-
Minimizes the appearance of hyperpigmentation
-
Smooths out wrinkles and fine lines
-
Dermaplaning can also make other skin care treatments more effective.
By scraping away the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, serums, moisturizers, and other products will be absorbed and take effect more easily. This will yield better, more consistent results.
Many people also combine dermaplaning with other treatments like microneedling, peels, and facials.
What to Expect?
At this point, you might be feeling interested in giving dermaplaning a try. At the same time, you might also be a bit unsure of what to expect during the treatment. You might be wondering if it will hurt or how much downtime youâll need to prepare for before receiving the treatment.
Every experience with dermaplaning will be a bit different. Most treatments go something like this, though:
Your skin will be gently cleansed and dried
- An aesthetician will use a sterile surgical blade to scrape away the hair and dead skin cells from the face (no anesthesia is necessary)
- The aesthetician will wipe away the dead skin cells and hair after the procedure is finished
- A cocktail of active serums will be applied
That’s it!
Thereâs no downtime and youâll see results immediately.Â
Frequently asked questions
What does the treatment feel like?
One of the most common myths of Dermaplaning is that it’s painful. Â The reality is that since dermaplaning involves light feathery strokes you’ll find it to be pleasant and pain free.Â
While some might be weary of the term ‘surgical blade” it is used to scrape (not cut) across the skin surface and truth is that when performed by a trained professional the procedure should have no discomfort.Â
How will it affect the vellus hair when it grows back?
Clients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after Dermaplaning, despite popular belief the hair does not grow back darker or coarser. Â As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair (thatâs the science-y name for clear or white soft fine facial hair), it will return at the same rate and texture as before treatment. Â
Can pregnant women receive this treatment?
This is a great treatment to offer to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding that want a deep exfoliation but are not allowed to receive chemical peels on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the bloodstream and may be transferred to the fetus or the child.
What about sensitive skin?
Dermaplaning is an alternative to chemical peels or Microdermabrasion and is a good choice for anyone who has  extremely sensitive skin, redness, and in some case rosacea. Â
Are their any side effects?
Side effects are minimal and temporary. Â Side effects may include redness, dryness and flaking of the skin. We recommend avoiding exercise and vigorous exfoliation for 24 hours after your Dermaplaning treatment to avoid irritation of the skin.
What are the benefits of adding a professional chemical peel?
Dermaplaning can be performed alone or for best results in conjunction with a professional chemical peel. When doing Dermaplaning prior to performing a peel (chemical exfoliation) it is a great way to prep the skin for a deeper and more even peel. Â When Dermaplaning is done in conjunction with a chemical peel, it leaves the skin instantly looking smooth, radiant and glowing. This is a perfect treatment for an event where you want to look good immediately and do not have days to wait to get results from other facial treatments. Our clients love it!
